Glasses Salem Oregon

The ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, is the period in time that is believed the eyeglasses were first used. This dates back to the 8th century B.C where there were simple meniscal glass lenses.

Corrective glasses are used to correct refractive errors of the eye by setting the right focal length of the lens in order to get rid of the condition like nearsightedness (myopia), astigmatism, and farsightedness (hyperopia). When the eye crystalline lens loses its elasticity, a condition known as presbyopia occurs and it is more commonly found starting at age 40. This condition leads to failure of the eye to focus an object close to the eye.

Safety glasses are normally made with shatter resistant plastic lenses in order to protect the eye from the debris. Even though safety lenses may be made from several materials of different resistant impact, there are some standards, which maintain that a minimum of one millimeter in thickness should be observed regardless of the material. The levels of protection these glasses provide vary from one glass to the other. For instance, those used in medicine may be to protect against blood splatter whereas safety glasses in factories require a stronger lens with a stronger frame to give additional shield at the templates.

There are different types of glasses, each designed for a different purpose. These are corrective glasses, safety glasses, sunglasses, reading glasses, Trifocals, bifocals and progressive glasses, and bioptic (gives extreme magnifications) glasses. Glasses can be used for personal image and expression. Some people wear glasses for identification purposes whereas others wear them for style and fashion. Salem Eye Clinic offers different varieties of designs to fit your style.
