Cataract Eye Surgery Salem Oregon
Cataract is a disorder of the eye lens. The lens of the eye works much like a lens in a camera. The lens composition is water and protein. The protein is displayed within the lens in such a way as to allow light to penetrate. As we age, some of the proteins break down and the lens begins to cloud, this can worsen with time and results in what we call cataracts of the eye, which blur our vision.
A symptom of the beginning of cataracts is blurred vision which is among the first and only signs of clouding of the eye lens. The problem with this symptom is that it may never be noticed until the cataract has already formed.
The cataracts are labeled in three categories: sub capsular, nuclear and cortical. Depending on the type of cataract that is formed depends of the type of symptoms you present to the clinic. You may acquire what is called a "second sight", with an improvement in your near vision. This improvement does not last long as the cataract worsens. Research has found that the "sub capsular" cataract may never present symptoms.
Dr. Brown will complete a comprehensive examination and will determine if dilation of the eye is necessary to conclude on the ripeness of the cataract. With the completion of this he will discuss with you if he feels it would appropriate for the removal of the cataract at this time, you are an active part of that decision.
